Obituary for Diane Marie Gomez

Diane Marie Gomez
DIANE MARIE GOMEZ

EDINBURG - Diane Marie Gomez (Briggles), 68, of Edinburg, TX passed peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2017, surrounded by family and her son, Eric Gomez, holding her hand. Diane was born on November 8, 1948, in Washington, D.C. to George and Anna Briggles. She was one of five children who loved life and thanks to their father, developed a lifelong passion for sports early. Diane was a wealth of sports knowledge and to her, no team was more important than the Washington Redskins. She moved to the Rio Grande Valley shortly after her marriage to Ronaldo Gomez of Pharr, TX. Although they would part ways, they remained close and together and raised four children and eight grandchildren. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising four amazing and loving children who would go on to be exceptional parents to her eight grandchildren.

Diane's passion for sports was further impressed upon her children and then her grandchildren, who continue to excel in a variety of sports. She was a tenacious fan who never missed her grandkids football, basketball or soft ball games. Diane was a fixture at the games and could always be heard cheering on their teams. The values and unconditional love and support she would instill in her children and grandchildren will live on as a testament to her faith and zest for life.

Ms. Gomez is survived by her four children: Ronnie (Laura), Anna (Andy Moreno), Jennifer (Jay Garcia), and Eric Gomez; eight grandchildren: Tristan, Nicolas, Atiana, Matthew, Ryan, Kayleen, Haylee and Olivia; her mother Anna Briggles, a sister, Kathy Boyle (Matt); three brothers: Jerry (Lynn) Briggles, Bobby Briggles and John (Debi) Briggles; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a loving and faithful companion, her German Shepard Zondo.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a 4 p.m. Celebration of Life service Monday, September 18, 2017, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Rd in Edinburg.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
