Jesus called my grandpa Mac home. He was my last living grandparent. I have some great memories of him! He had a beautiful willow tree at his house in front of the lake and he didn't mind me swinging from those branches and the coolest metal awning that I loved to climb on! He had the best carpeted stairs to slide down! And he had a beautiful bird name Sam who loved to dance.
My grandfather had a beautiful voice and a love for music and inspired me to have a love for violin and for the piano. I believe he bought me my first violin. And he had a beautiful old Organ that I loved to climb on and push all the buttons and pedals. I think grandpa's have an extra grace for their grandkids! At Christmas time my grandma would yell at him, "Mac be careful with those Christmas presents!" Then my grandpa would throw the Christmas present at us and say our name at the last second in time to catch it. He was quite the character!
I have always had a tough time with funerals and I will never forget when my grandma passed away my family was one of the last to walk in and I always hid behind my dad at funerals. My grandpa Mac was right behind me and he reached down and took my hand and said "will you walk me down to the front I can't do this without you. "This incredible business man who was very successful and strong in that moment made me feel so important to him.
I wish I had a recording of his beautiful voice. He passed his passion for music to my mom and to me. My mom being A very accomplished pianist and harpest as well as vocalist traveling with Sweet Adeline's all over the nation and competing! And she still leads worship to this day! I am thankful for the music he impressed upon me as well as my mom… One of the reasons why I teach piano and voice today and absolutely love to lead worship! "Your chains are gone, you've been set free, our God and Savior has ransom you and like a flood, His mercy reigns unending love amazing grace!" I am singing this over you tonight grandpa Mac! Love Heidi
